Graduated Symbols

The data used in the above map was visualized using a graduated symbol to denote wind speed and then converted to storm classification.

Statistical Classification

The map below utilizes two statistical analyses to classify voter turnouts based on Denver County precincts.   The top map uses an equal interval method for creating breaks for classification, and the bottom map uses a quantile method.  As you are able to see, the utilization of different statistical methods can lead to a different classification distribution and ultimately a different perception of the data by a reader.

Symbology

The following map is an exercise in symbology, using airport locations that are major hubs in the United States.  The classifications are broken down based on regions of the United States.

Labeling and Annotation

The following map is the result of a labeling exercise that involved processing every label and then converting to annotation in order to tweak desired text further.
